Tiger Woods at the Ryder Cup: Why the former world No 1 is a vice-captain at Hazeltine
TIGER WOODS is at his eighth Ryder Cup, but this time he won't be winning any points for Team USA.
Woods has been chosen by Davis Love III to act as one of his vice-captains
Woods has not completed a round of competitive golf since August 2015 and only made six cuts last year.
A series of back operations and an admission that he does not know when he might return left his career in jeopardy and his chances of playing the 2016 Ryder Cup at nothing.
Instead, Davis Love III has given him a role with an earpiece and a watching brief as a vice-captain.
But does his Ryder Cup record merit a role as one of Love's invaluable lieutenants?
1997: A memorable debut
Woods arrived at Valderrama as world number 2 and was expected to form the centrepiece of a strong American team.
Woods was once again a rare shining light but his singles victory over Robert Karlsson was one of just three European defeats on Sunday.

2010: Defeat in the damp
Woods had missed 2008 having failed to recover from knee surgery although the US had not struggled without him, winning by five points in Kentucky.
Play at Celtic Manor was extended until Monday and Woods - along with partner Steve Stricker - led the US's scoring but could not prevent a 14.5 - 13.5 defeat.

2012: The miracle at Medinah
Team USA led 10-6 after a dominant Saturday morning performance although Woods had lost all three matches with Stricker.
And his poor form carried into Sunday as he halved a singles match with Francesco Molinari to hand Europe victory.
