Rory McIlroy has vowed to acknowledge Tiger Woods at the Masters Champions Dinner, which the 15-time major winner will miss after stepping away from golf. Woods recently announced that he would be seeking treatment following a two-vehicle rollover crash in Jupiter, Florida. He was arrested and taken to a police station, where he faced misdemeanour charges.

Alongside Woods, Phil Mickelson will also be absent from this year's Masters and Champions Dinner, marking the first time in over three decades that neither player will take part in the major at Augusta National. Speaking at the Drive, Chip and Putt event ahead of the tournament, McIlroy conceded that the absence of both Woods and Mickelson would be deeply felt at the Champions Dinner, which he is due to host for the very first time in his career.

"I'll just be incredibly grateful that I'm a part of it," he said of the time-honoured tradition.

"And I want to share that with everyone in the room. It is the most exclusive dinner club in all of sport. And I think we should all feel very fortunate that we are there.

"But we're there because of the hard work and the good play that we've been able to produce. Unfortunately, there'll be a couple of guys that won't be in that room, which is a shame.

"But I want to make sure that they're acknowledged as well. And they've been two of the greatest champions that the Masters has ever seen.

"It's going to be a really cool night. I can't wait. I hope everyone enjoys the dinner and enjoys everything that I've selected.

"Hopefully, we won't stay too long, and I'll be ready to go. I may be not as fresh on Wednesday morning, but Thursday, I'll be ready to go."

Taking to social media last Thursday, Mickelson confirmed he would not be playing at the Masters, citing a personal health matter.

"Unfortunately, I will not play in the Masters Tournament next week and will be out for an extended period of time as my family continues to navigate a personal health matter," he wrote.

"I have great respect for Augusta National Golf Club and it is definitely the most special week of the year. I wish everyone the best of luck and will be watching."

Woods, meanwhile, revealed he would be taking a break for an unspecified period of time.

In a statement addressing recent events, Woods wrote: "I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today.

"I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.

"I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally.

"I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."
