Liverpool transfer news: Steve Nicol reveals ‘perfect’ Barcelona deal
BARCELONA signing Simon Mignolet would be a “perfect” move for the Liverpool goalkeeper - if he is happy being a No 2.
That is the opinion of ESPN FC pundit and former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol.
Mignolet’s future at Anfield is in doubt following the world-record arrival of Brazil stopper Alisson last month.
The Belgian was second choice to Simon Mignolet for the second half of last season, so could now find himself further down the pecking order.
Barcelona have been linked with a shock move for the former Sunderland man.
It’s perfect for him, and it’s perfect for Barcelona as well
And Nicol says he can see it happening if Mignolet is not desperate for first-team football.
“It depends on what Mignolet wants,” Nicol said.
“If he wants, or is happy at 30 years of age, to kind of just be known now as a No 2, then this is perfect.
“It’s perfect for him, and it’s perfect for Barcelona as well.
Liverpool: Simon Mignolet needs to be replaced says expert
“I think there’s a chance that something like this might happen.
“It might not be Barcelona, but I think he goes.
“So I’m going to say this is a hit.”
Mignolet has made 200 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Sunderland in 2013.
