Chelsea transfer news: Sarri has backup option if Juventus snub Rugani deal
CHELSEA have a Plan B in the transfer market if Juventus reject an approach for Daniele Rugani.
Chelsea target Mattia Caldara says he's settled at Juventus
Chelsea are understood to be keen on landing 23-year-old Rugani this summer.
The Blues’ slow progress in the transfer window is expected to hot up this week.
Maurizio Sarri has left his board with the task of strengthening the squad before the August 9 transfer deadline.
And Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claim Sarri has identified his secondary target if a Rugani deal cannot be done.
According to the report, Chelsea will move on to Rugani’s Juve team-mate Mattia Caldara.
Caldara, 24, was linked with a move to Chelsea last week and now the Blues have in place a plan for the centre-back.
Gazzetta say even though Rugani is a midfielder, Caldara will be the secondary target for Chelsea if their top choice refuses to move.
Caldara spent last season at Atalanta, where he played 34 games including outings in the Europa League.
He was signed by Juve in January 2017 but was immediately loaned back to Atalanta.
Juve supposedly see Caldara as an investment and could theoretically sell him to the highest bidder this summer.
Gazzetta report the Juve’s interest in their former centre-back Leonardo Bonucci is hotting up, with Caldara almost certainly not in Max Allegri’s plans for the upcoming season if the veteran Italian moves back to Turin.
