Arsenal news: David Seaman raises Arsene Wenger concern over Unai Emery
ARSENAL’s players and fans will take time getting used to having Unai Emery as manager.
Emery is very vocal in Arsenal pre-season friendly
That’s the opinion of the Gunners’ former goalkeeper David Seaman.
Emery came in as Arsene Wenger’s replacement after the legendary Frenchman ended a 22-year tenure in north London.
The ex-Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla boss has made five summer signings as he looks to shake up the club following back-to-back finishes outside of the Premier League’s top four.
Arsenal had stagnated in the last five years under Wenger, despite continuing to add to their FA Cup haul, and were increasingly less competitive in the hunt for top-flight and European honours.
And while it is not yet known whether Emery’s appointment will prove the catalyst for a much-needed rejuvenation at the Emirates, Seaman suspects initially the team will take time to get used to his methods after working under Wenger for so long.
And the ex-England shot-stopper also believes it will be strange for him and Arsenal fans getting used to seeing a different man in the dug-out.
“If I am honest I don’t think it will click straight away because it is a new manager,” Seaman said ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.
“It is a whole new different way of Arsenal. I am back here [at the Emirates] and I am still seeing Arsene’s face everywhere.
“I see him in the dugout - moaning and groaning and throwing water bottles and struggling with his zip, stuff like that.
“So it is going to be really hard to get used to somebody else in that seat.
“It will take time, but I think realistically top four would be a great season for us.”
Arsenal fly out to Singapore today to continue their pre-season preparations with International Champions Cup clashes against Atletico Madrid and PSG.
Their Premier League season couldn't start much tougher, facing reigning champions Manchester City at home on Sunday 12 August (4pm).
