Tottenham transfer news: Alderweireld issue ‘similar’ to Alexis Sanchez joining Man Utd
TOTTENHAM have the same problem with Toby Alderweireld that Arsenal faced with Alexis Sanchez, claims Gunners legend Ray Parlour.
Mourinho doesn't need Alderweireld at United says expert
Alderweireld has been linked with a move away from Tottenham to Manchester United this summer.
The Belgium centre-back is out of contract at the end of the upcoming season but Spurs do have the option to trigger a one-year extension in his deal.
However, if they do that then Alderweireld has a clause meaning he will be available to buy for only £25million next summer.
Arsenal chose to cash in on Sanchez in January before his contract expired, swapping the Chilean for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Tottenham have lots of bills to pay with the new stadium so I think Alderweireld will leave the club this summer
And Parlour believes Spurs will do the same with Alderweireld before the transfer window shuts.
“Alderweireld is one of the best central defenders in the Premier League so it’s a really difficult situation for Tottenham,” he told bwin.
“There will be a lot of clubs in the Premier League and abroad who will be interested.
“The situation is very similar to what Arsenal faced with Alexis Sanchez whereby the club can either cash in or keep the player and risk losing him for peanuts.

Alderweireld made just 22 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions last season.
Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez were often preferred to him in the Premier League in the second half of the campaign.
