Arsenal transfer news: Unai Emery reveals real reason for Jack Wilshere departure
NEW Arsenal manager Unai Emery has spoken out on Jack Wilshere’s exit.
Jack Wilshere thanks Arsenal for the memories
Wilshere left Arsenal earlier this summer and has since signed for West Ham.
The midfielder’s departure came as he could not agree terms of a new deal at the Emirates under new boss Emery.
Emery replaced Arsene Wenger at the helm this summer and has already made wholesale changes, bringing five new players to the club.
But there was also the departure of Wilshere, which raised eyebrows among many fans after a solid season.
And Emery has now explained the reasoning behind Wilshere moving away from the Emirates.
"It was a tactical, technical decision," Emery said. "The conversation with Wilshere was a very good conversation.
“I explained to him my opinion and how I will want to create the team and not sure [I could] say to him he's going to play in the XI.
"Also he explained to me the decision is not easy for him but he wanted to choose the best option for him. Every time it was with respect.
"I know this player is very important for the supporters, he grew up here with Arsenal. But I don't give for him one post in the starting XI. It's for that he chose to leave here and I respect this."
Lucas Torreira, Bernd Leno, Sokratis, Matteo Guendouzi and Stephan Lichtsteiner have all arrived at Arsenal.
Santi Cazorla and Per Mertesacker have joined Wilshere in leaving though Mertesacker is still coaching with Aresnal’s academy.
And Emery believes Arsenal’s dealings for the summer are over.
“We signed the players who we need, only if one player is a big opportunity for us to sign we can do it," Emery added.
"In this moment I think the squad is complete, only the possibility for one player or two players to leave.
"To sign [a player] in the next month? Only if he is a big opportunity."
