“As soon as he hit it, the whole Croatia wall jumped and it just cleared them. What a start,” he said.
Chris Waddle, who played in the 1990 World Cup semi-final against West Germany, said: “Croatia are unsettled and they couldn't have anticipated the start England have had.
“People say Croatia have had hard games, but they look fresh to me, and they will have to up the tempo now.”

Before the game ex-Arsenal star Stewart Robson backed Trippier to remain at Tottenham after the World Cup.
“For Tottenham I’ve not always been a great fan of his, but for England he’s been exceptional,” he told ESPN FC.
“He’s got crosses in, he’s got great pace going down that right-hand side. He hasn’t been exposed defensively.
“I would say, Kieran Trippier, Tottenham is the right club for him at the moment.
“I think he is guaranteed his place in the side.
“Kieran Trippier will be staying at Spurs.”
