David Beckham made a heartfelt final visit to Sweden for a farewell meal with former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson before his passing. Eriksson, who died earlier this year at the age of 76 following a battle with terminal cancer, was honoured globally in the football world.

His life was commemorated in an Amazon Prime documentary where he delivered a poignant final message: "Thank you for everything, coaches, players, the crowds, it's been fantastic. Take care of yourself and take care of your life," Beckham, who captained England under Eriksson's management, featured in the documentary after visiting Eriksson's home.

In an excerpt from Eriksson's memoir, the ex-manager reminisced about his meeting with Beckham, whom he referred to as his 'right-hand man'. Beckham, the former Manchester United and England star, brought along his private chef to prepare some Swedish delicacies, including herring and elk meat, during his brief stay.

"We had an extremely good relationship during my time with England, and Beckham is Beckham. He's an incredibly fine person. Since I left that job, we've met now and again, and we talk regularly," Eriksson wrote in his memoir, published by the Daily Mail.

"When I made my diagnosis public earlier this year, he called a few days later and said: 'I'd like to come and visit you, if I may.' Of course he could. He arrived in his private jet at Karlstad Airport, about an hour's drive from my home.

"He brought with him his own chef in fact he sent the chef one day ahead. The meal was herring and potatoes and elk meat, following my wishes. We had one aquavit, a Scandinavian spirit, each. It was a highly relaxing moment and I truly appreciated his visit.

"Of course we talked about football, but we also covered much more during David's three-hour visit. What we said shall remain within us, and only us, as always between trainer and player."

Beckham made a heartfelt return to Sweden for Eriksson's funeral last month. He shared a poignant clip of their final meeting on Instagram, accompanied by an emotional tribute.

"We laughed, we cried and we knew we were saying goodbye. Sven thank you for always being the person you have always been, passionate, caring, calm and a true gentleman," he penned.

"I will be forever grateful for you making me your captain but I will forever hold these last memories of this day with you and your family. Thank you Sven and in your last words to me: 'It will be ok'."
