Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp responds to Loris Karius’ howler against Tranmere
LIVERPOOL manager Jurgen Klopp is refusing to dwell on the latest mistake from goalkeeper Loris Karius.
After a string of mistakes for Liverpool last season – including two which ultimately cost the Reds the Champions League final – Karius’ future at Anfield has become increasingly under threat.
And the German goalkeeper has once again made a howler between the sticks, this time in their pre-season friendly against Tranmere.
The Reds were leading 3-0 thanks to first-half goals from Rafael Camacho, Sheyi Ojo and Adam Lallana.
However, Liverpool conceded a free-kick with less then 20 minutes remaining at Tranmere and Ollie Norburn duly stepped up and drilled his shot towards Karius.
While the goalkeeper initially blocked the shot, Karius couldn’t keep a hold of it and Jonny Smith poked the ball home to cut the deficit.
But despite the mistake, Klopp does not want to dwell on the error.
“Nobody likes that goal, but if we talk about the second goal – I think it was Millie’s fault together with Chirivella,” Klopp said.
“Two brilliant footballers make this mistake, which one was bigger? I would say the mistake of the two boys, but we don’t talk about it.
“Loris concedes that goal, but we cannot start a story always after each mistake.
“Mistakes will happen; I don’t like it, he doesn’t like it, but it will happen, so let’s carry on and make the best of all these situations by learning from them.
“That’s how it is.”
