Man Utd transfer news: AC Milan chief offers update on Leonardo Bonucci interest
MANCHESTER UNITED will not be signing AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci this summer.
The Italian stalwart was brought in as the Serie A side's marquee signing last year, as the club attempted to overhaul their failing squad.
Milan also broke the bank with big money moves for the likes of Andre Silva, Andrea Conti and Hakan Calhanoglu.
The former European giants have recently been banned from European club competitions for breaching UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations after their excessive spending last summer.
However, despite the club's financial worries, CEO Marco Fassone insists Bonucci will not be departing the club any time soon.
He is one of the team's strong points and he will stay with us for a long time
"Leo is our captain, he is not one of the players we are discussing or negotiating," he told supporters during an open Q&A session.
"He is one of the team's strong points and he will stay with us for a long time."
Jose Mourinho was said to be interested in Bonucci to shore up his defence ahead of the new Premier League season.
The Red Devils have also been linked with Toby Alderweireld in recent months.

However, Tottenham appear to be reluctant to allow the Belgian to move to a direct Premier League rival.
United have already secured the signatures of Diogo Dalot and Fred this summer.
Stoke City's Lee Grant is expected to join the club this week.
