Liverpool transfer news: Simon Mignolet reveals when he will decide his Anfield future
LIVERPOOL goalkeeper Simon Mignolet’s future will be decided following the World Cup.
Mignolet signed a five-year deal with the club in January 2016 but has found his opportunities limited at Anfield.
The Belgian did begin last season as Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice stopper though fell behind Loris Karius in the pecking order in January.
Mignolet may have hopes of regaining his No 1 spot after Karius made two errors in Liverpool’s Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.
But reports suggest Klopp is on the hunt for a new goalkeeper leaving Mignolet pondering where his future lies.
But the 30-year-old has now revealed he will wait until the conclusion of the World Cup before making a decision.
“I am going to look at my situation when I come back from the World Cup,” Mignolet said.
“At this moment I have not been speaking to anyone at Liverpool because I have been trying to focus on Belgium.
“[The goalkeeping coach] John Achterberg sends me a text before every game, to see how I am and if I am fit, so I keep in touch with him.
“But I didn’t play in the last few months at Liverpool, so after the World Cup I will look at everything. I can’t say much more.
“I don’t know how long I will have off after the tournament. I need to speak to the manager about that.”
Mignolet is yet to feature for Belgium in the World Cup with Thibaut Courtois the Belgians No 1.
Belgium face Japan in the last-16 with Brazil or Mexico awaiting the winners in the quarter-finals.
