Man Utd transfer news: Anthony Martial stance taken with Tottenham over summer deal
MANCHESTER UNITED have taken a tough stance with Tottenham over Anthony Martial, reports claim.
The Manchester United forward is angling for an exit from Old Trafford after failing to curry favour from Jose Mourinho.
Tottenham have been credited with an interest, with Mauricio Pochettino keen to help take some of the burden off Harry Kane.
Recent reports suggested Juventus have made Martial their top target as they seek to restructure their squad.
But as far as Spurs are concerned, they have reportedly been given short shrift.
The Manchester Evening News claim the north London outfit have been quoted ‘silly prices’ for the player, who joined for an initial fee of £36million in 2015.
After thinking about all the possibilities and scenarios, Anthony wants to leave Manchester United
Perhaps it was inevitable that United would be hard on their Premier League rivals as the Red Devils have reached an impasse on Toby Alderweireld.
Manchester Evening News suggest that Alderweireld and Martial’s situations could drag on.
Mourinho has made it clear he wouldn’t sell Martial to a direct rival.
Martial’s agent admitted earlier this month that his client wants to leave Old Trafford.
He said: “After thinking about all the possibilities and scenarios, Anthony wants to leave Manchester United.
"There are many scenarios. For now, it's premature to talk about it. Anthony will speak later to explain all of this.
"Manchester United want to extend Anthony's contract and do not want him to leave, but we have not been able to find an agreement for several months.
"I think that when Manchester United, which is the most powerful club in the world it must be remembered, do not find an agreement in eight months of negotiations, it is because they do not really want to make him an important member of the team.
“That's the root of this decision. It is a well-considered decision.”
