Arsenal have been in talks with Sampdoria over a deal for Torreira, who is currently with the Uruguay squad at the World Cup.
The 22-year-old has made 74 appearances for Sampdoria since joining them in 2015 and could become Arsenal’s third signing of the summer.
But speaking after Uruguay's 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia, the midfielder was reluctant to say if he was going Arsenal.
"No, I don't know [if he is an Arsenal player]," Torreira said.

"Arsenal are a good team, one of the most important in the world, but at this moment I am focused on playing for my country."
Earlier this week, Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero was more definitive, saying Torreira had been sold.
He said: “Torreira left for 30m euro. I bought him from Pescara when no one believed in him. We placed a bet and we won, paying just 3m euro.
"La Samp does not sell unless there are excellent offers. We do not look for buyers.
“We have natural talents whose value increases exponentially."
New Arsenal boss Unai Emery has already brought Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bernd Leno to the club.
While a deal for Greek centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos is expected to be announced next month.
