Nabil Fekir: Liverpool transfer saga takes fresh twist as Lyon have major issue with deal
NABIL FEKIR continues to be linked with Liverpool - and reports say Lyon have one issue with their origins plans to sign the France international.
Nabil Fekir to Liverpool is now 50/50 says expert
Fekir remains on Liverpool’s radar despite a transfer raid on Lyon failing earlier this month.
The 24-year-old, who could feature for France when they face Peru in their second World Cup match tomorrow, appeared set to sign for Jurgen Klopp’s team.
Footage of him posing in Liverpool colours surfaced, while he even appeared to be holding the No 8 shirt left vacant since Steven Gerrard’s retirement.
Reports have since claimed Fekir has been offered to the Reds’ top-six rivals.
And Indonesian newspaper Jawapos say this is because Lyon were angry at Liverpool for their low offer.
The club appeared to have struck an agreement on a £53million transfer.
But Jawapos claim Lyon would prefer to receive £66m - which was why they offered him out to their rivals.
Liverpool may reignite their interest in Fekir after the World Cup, particularly if he dazzles in Russia.
Yet they could have to up their initial offer if they are to lure the player to Merseyside.
Liverpool boss Klopp appeared to be the one who stopped a deal for Fekir because of fears over his fitness.
And Anfield legend John Barnes thinks the German should be trusted - with whatever decision is made.
"If they feel that there is a medical issue then they shouldn’t [sign him]," Barnes told the Daily Star.
"Liverpool have to do what they think is right and Jurgen Klopp has to make those decisions.
"Obviously, we trust Jurgen Klopp and the choices he makes so if Jurgen Klopp decides not to sign him then we shouldn’t no.
"If he decides to sign him with his slight injury but it’s not an injury that’s going to stop him playing and we feel it’s worth it then I’ll back him."
Should Fekir sign, he would replace Philippe Coutinho.
Liverpool sold the Brazilian to Barcelona in a £142million deal back in January.
