Real Madrid news: Perez branded ‘dictator’ after ‘backstabbing’ Spain over Lopetegui
REAL MADRID are turning football fans against them with their “backstabbing, disloyal” appointment of Julen Lopetegui.
That is according to Spanish radio host Jose Maria Garcia, who let loose a tirade at Florentino Perez live on air today.
Real Madrid confirmed on Tuesday that Lopetegui will join the club as their new manager after the World Cup.
Spain have reacted to the news - which they were told about five minutes before Real released a statement - by sacking Lopetegui from his position as the national team boss.
It leaves the former world champions in a perilous position just 48 hours before their tournament kicks off against Portugal.
And Radio Marca journalist Garcia is not happy with Los Blancos, branding their president Perez a “dictator”.
"It's a backstabbing, disloyal and cannibal (act),” he said.
Florentino and Lopetegui, they allow themselves the luxury of betraying a country
“We are going to the World Cup with illusions with reality. After a brilliant qualification everything falls apart because of the disloyalty and selfishness of Julen Lopetegui and the protagonism of a dictator, Florentino Perez, is turning Real Madrid into a machine to make anti-madridistas.”
Fernando Hierro will take charge of the Spain national side for the World Cup, even though the majority of the players wanted Lopetegui to continue.
On the approach, Garcia added: "Florentino reaches a conclusion, which is Lopetegui.
“The relations between (Spanish Football Federation president) Luis Rubiales and Florentino are very cordial.
“Madrid needed Lopetegui not to lead Spain during the World Cup.
“If they had been eliminated in the first phase how could Florentino have presented the Real Madrid board with this flop? The best thing for them to do was get him out (of Spain) and in Madrid untouched (by reputation)."
And in a final attack on the manager himself, Garcia claimed Lopetegui had “betrayed” Spain over his decision to join Real.
"He was my friend, he disappointed me,” Garcia added.
“I prefer not to meet Julen because he can not look anyone in the face.
“He has no economic problems, a good contract, he goes to Madrid but not at this price.
“Two guys, Florentino and Lopetegui, they allow themselves the luxury of betraying a country.”
