Arsenal transfer news: German expert delivers warning over Bernd Leno deal
ARSENAL transfer target Bernd Leno development has stalled.
Bernd Leno: Meet one of Germany’s 'best goalkeepers’
That is according to Bundesliga expert Jan Aage Fjortoft.
The Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper is reportedly on the verge of joining Arsenal in a deal worth around £20million.
Leno has made has made 304 appearances for the Bundesliga side since 2013 and kept 100 clean sheets but the 26-year-old was left out of Germany’s World Cup squad after an error-strewn season.
And Fjortoft says that although a move to Arsenal could be good for Leno, the goalkeeper hasn’t developed in recent years.
Leno was a great talented keeper. It’s fair to say he hasn’t “taken the next step”
Fjortoft tweeted: “Bernd Leno to Arsenal seems to be just around the corner.
“Was a great talented keeper. It’s fair to say he hasn’t “taken the next step”.
“But a move to England can be good for him.”
Leno’s potential arrival will provide competition for the experienced Petr Cech, who struggled last season.
Arsenal and new manager Unai Emery have made strengthening the back five and midfield stronger.
Stephan Lichsteiner has joined on a free from Juventus while a deal for Sokratis Papastathopoulos is all but done barring an announcement.
While Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira is reportedly closing in on a £26m move.
