Jose Mourinho: Eidur Gudjohnsen makes shock Pep Guardiola claim about Man Utd boss
JOSE MOURINHO and Pep Guardiola have more in common than may meet the eye.
That is the view of Eidur Gudjohnsen who played under both managers during his spells at Barcelona and Chelsea.
Guardiola received widespread plaudits after Manchester City romped to the Premier League title and they also lifted the Carabao Cup.
Mourinho on the other hand was routinely criticised for his side’s bland style of football and they finished 19 points adrift of the champions.
Guardiola and Mourinho have often been pitted against each other during their managerial careers and are the best of enemies.
Both [are] at a standard which is very similar, it’s just who do you like more
While there is a continual debate about who the better coach is, Gudjohnsen thinks there isn’t too much difference between them.
“I always say the same: they’re very similar in their eye for detail, in their obsession in how the game should be played,” Gudjohnsen told The Independent.
“I think Guardiola puts more emphasis on possession of the ball and how can we dominate the opposition in possession and overload spaces where the ball is being played.
“Mourinho is a little more direct, and this is from my experience.
“Both [are] at a standard which is very similar, it’s just who do you like more.
“The biggest difference is the characters. Mourinho has got a bigger personality, a bigger character than Guardiola.
“Guardiola might be more of the silent type, thinking, an introvert.”
