Chelsea transfer news: AC Milan plot stunning raid but sweat on UEFA decision
AC MILAN are waiting on UEFA’s decision over their European eligibility next season before raiding Chelsea for Alvaro Morata.
Milan are under threat of losing their place in the 2018/19 Europa League due to their financial ill health.
It is understood UEFA are unhappy with Milan’s efforts to meet Financial Fair Play obligations.
The club spent over £150m on new players last summer and recently required a cash injection of £8.8m from their Chinese investors, while a further £26.5m is due on June 15.
Financial pressures have not gone away and there are reports that US stakeholders Elliott Management could take full control of the club soon.
But despite the financial turmoil the San Siro giants seem unwilling to step away from their transfer plans just yet and have grand designs of signing Morata from Chelsea.
That is according to newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim Milan are confident of getting UEFA’s approval over their finances.
According to the report, club bosses are waiting for confirmation of their Europa League status before plunging into the transfer market.
Morata, 25, is well respected in Italy following his two successful seasons there with Juventus.
The striker, bought by Chelsea from Real Madrid last summer in a £60m, is deemed available at the right price.
His future in west London remains in doubt, with the Blues tipped to move for a new striker themselves in this window.
Morata has also been linked with a move back to Juve this summer and was spotted in Milan with his agent last month.
But the player insists that he was in the Italian city to attend a birthday party.
Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso would, in the event of moving for Morata, have to shift some dead wood from his attacking unit.

Gazzetta claim that would lead to Andre Silva - who only arrived last summer from Porto - leaving the club.
There are claims in Italy that Premier League side Huddersfield Town are interested in Silva.
However, Express Sport understands that a deal is highly unlikely, while Wolves have also been loosely linked.
It is added that Radamel Falcao is Gattuso’s Plan B if a deal for Morata cannot be struck.
