Fred to Man Utd: Shakhtar Donetsk star provides big twist over summer transfer
FRED has provided a key twist over his impending move to Manchester United.
The Shakhtar Donetsk had looked to be closing in on a move to Manchester United, with reports suggesting a £53million fee had been agreed between the two clubs.
It was also suggested that the 25-year-old would head to Manchester next week for a medical.
With Michael Carrick retiring and Marouane Fellaini potentially leaving, Jose Mourinho has earmarked signing a midfielder to bolster his squad.
Mourinho wants to spend big to bridge the gap to Manchester City who ran away with the Premier League.
Maybe after the World Cup I will make the choice
But as far as Fred is concerned, the player’s latest comments wouldn’t suggest a deal is in the pipeline.
“Maybe after the World Cup I will make the choice,” he said.
“Now I am only thinking about the World Cup.”
Shakhtar president Rinat Akhemetov had initially suggested he would be open to agreeing a transfer with United for the Brazilian.
He said: “We'll get exactly the amount he costs.
"We can’t get a dollar if the player costs 50 cents. We don’t want to sell him for 50 cents if the football player costs a dollar.
"This will be a market price, the fair price, and it will be beneficial both for the club inviting Fred and for us.
“That is, I can somewhat feel that Fred will be more expensive than Fernandinho and [Alex] Teixeira."
