Arsenal news: Patrick Vieira 'accepts role' away from New York City FC
PATRICK VIEIRA has reportedly agreed to become the new manager of Nice, after rejecting Arsenal's advances.
Patrick Vieira has reportedly accepted a role at Nice
The Frenchman was the early front-runner to replace Arsene Wenger at the Emirates this season.
However, Vieira was quick to rubbish claims he would be returning to the club this summer.
The 41-year-old repeatedly insisted he was committed to New York City FC, sister club of Manchester City.
And many believed Vieira was continuing his role at the MLS side to guarantee a shot at replacing Pep Guardiola in the future.
However, according to L'Equipe, the former Arsenal captain has already signed a contract at Nice.
Patrick Vieira had repeatedly pledged his future to New York
Lucien Favre has recently left the Ligue 1 outfit to take over at Borussia Dortmund after a disappointing season.
Nice finished eighth in the French top flight, with Mario Balotelli scoring 18 goals.
Nantes and Rennes have expressed their interest in Vieira in the past.
Mikel Arteta is now the front-runner for the Arsenal job
But the former French international has continuously rebuffed offers from Ligue 1.
As for Arsenal, Mikel Arteta is now the front-runner for the vacant manager post.
The Spaniard has worked with Guardiola since 2016, helping the Citizens win the Premier League title this term.
It has been widely reported Arteta will be appointed in the coming days.
