Everton news: £6m Sam Allardyce headache as unhappy Wayne Rooney summons talks
EVERTON face a £6m bill to sack Sam Allardyce as they prepare to make their move for former Watford manager Marco Silva.
Everton are expected to let Sam Allardyce leave the club
Allardyce is scheduled to hold talks with Farhad Moshiri, the club’s major shareholder, after a board meeting was held last night to plan for next season.
There is still a year to run on the contract that Allardyce signed when he took charge of Everton in November, and it entitles him to have his salary paid up in full if it is terminated early.
That would leave Everton facing a significant compensation bill to unseat a manager who has proved unpopular with fans critical of his style of football, which they perceive as unadventurous.
Moshiri wanted Silva to take charge at Goodison Park last autumn following the sacking of Ronald Koeman, but Watford rejected their approach despite the offer of a compensation package worth around £15m.
Watford then sacked Silva in January, claiming that his focus had been affected by Everton’s interest. The Portuguese coach is still locked in a legal dispute with the Hornets, having not received any compensation for his dismissal.

Wayne Rooney will hold talks with Everton over his future
There is still the possibility that Watford may try to claim a financial settlement from Everton over Silva’s departure – meaning that a quick resolution to the coach’s future may not be easy.
Everton are set to meet Wayne Rooney’s representatives today to sort out his future amid interest from Major League Soccer side DC United.
Rooney is unhappy that Everton instigated the interest, given that he made a public commitment to his boyhood club when he returned last July after 13 years at Manchester United.
