The forward has recently been linked with a shock move to the MLS outfit.
And it appears Rooney will be departing after all, despite Sam Allardyce insisting the 33-year-old hadn't asked to leave.
The Everton boss denied a falling out between the pair, rubbishing rumours he was the reason Rooney wanted a Goodison exit.
The former Manchester United star has been ruled out of the clash with West Ham on Sunday.
And after missing training in recent days, Rooney has now reportedly said his goodbyes at Finch Farm.
"He hasn't taken any part in training with that slight knee injury which is keeping him out of that game against West Ham United," said a Sky Sports news reporter at Everton's training ground.

DC United boss Ben Olsen admitted a deal was in the works.
However, the MLS coach claimed Rooney's transfer wasn't close to being completed.
Everton travel to the London Stadium to face David Moyes' side on Sunday at 3pm.
