Rangers news: Steven Gerrard close to accepting job but will he be at Celtic match?
STEVEN GERRARD is close to accepting Rangers’ offer to become their new manager.
Rangers are expected to appoint Steven Gerrard as their next manager
However, with talks ongoing, it is unlikely he will be at Celtic on Sunday for the last Old Firm of the season.
Rangers have offered Liverpool legend Gerrard the chance to take over as manager from Graeme Murty.
Gerrard is currently coaching Liverpool’s youth side but is understood to be ready to take up the offer.
And while Murty is holding firm on his reluctance to leave, Rangers look set to announce the appointment possibly as soon assent week.
However, it is not believed Gerrard will have the deal wrapped up in time to be in attendance at Celtic Park.

Rangers will seek to recover from their 4-0 Scottish Cup hammering at the hands of Celtic earlier this month when they meet their rivals at Parkhead.
Gets are hoping to secure second place in the Scottish Premiership.
Speaking about Gerrard’s impending appointment, his former boss Brendan Rodgers said the ex-England captain deserves his chance.
"When you're starting out it's all about when you feel the time is right," said Rodgers before Sunday's Premiership meeting with Rangers.
"It's not necessarily about the club, it's about the right club."

Rodgers added: "I was a little bit surprised when I saw (he was linked).
"If the speculation is right then maybe Stevie feels it is the right club.
"He's always wanted to be a manager. I know from my time working closely with him at Liverpool that it was something he always wanted to do.
"He's lived with expectation all his life at Liverpool and as the captain of England."
