Man Utd news: Ashley Young could have broken Sergio Aguero’s leg - Match of the Day pundit
ASHLEY YOUNG could have broken Sergio Aguero’s leg in yesterday’s epic clash between Manchester City and Manchester United, says Danny Murphy.
Ashley Young appeared to foul Sergio Aguero in the Manchester derby but a foul wasn't given
With Manchester United leading 3-2, Young took down Aguero with a high, studs-up challenge in the 18-yard area.
Referee Martin Atkinson waved away appeals for a penalty with Sergio Aguero writhing around on the ground in pain.
Murphy says he cannot understand why a penalty was not given and says Young could have been sent off for the challenge.
“I have to be honest, when we first saw it, we were a bit ‘oo, it looks like a pen’,” he said on Match of the Day.
The ref’s obviously not seen it, because if he saw that, it’s 100 per cent a penalty and also it could be a red
“And then when we saw this, and I think Ashley Young does get a bit on the ball, but that bit after, that could be a leg breaker.
“The ref’s obviously not seen it, because if he saw that, it’s 100 per cent a penalty and also it could be a red.”
Frank Lampard was working alongside Murphy and agreed the referee made the wrong call.
“Certainly on the fringe of being a red card,” Chelsea legend Lampard said.

“More important for Manchester City today was the penalty, if they get the penalty all of a sudden they are probably drawing the game and could go on to win it.
“Crucial decision and I can’t believe he didn’t give that.”
Manchester United won the game 3-2, coming from two goals down at half time, to postpone City’s title celebrations.
