Liverpool news: Jordan Henderson jokes with Emre Can about his contract situation
LIVERPOOL captain Jordan Henderson has joked Emre Can’s uncertain future “doesn’t matter” as long as he keeps putting in man of the match displays.
Jordan Henderson made light of Emre Can's contract situation
The Germany international has just five months remaining on his contract at Liverpool with speculation growing whether he will remain at the club.
Reports from Italy claim Juventus remain the favourites for his signature and there have been suggestions Can has already agreed terms with the Serie A side.
But Liverpool remain hopeful they can tie their star midfielder to a new deal before the end of the season.
The 24-year-old scored the first of Liverpool’s three goals in their win over Huddersfield this evening.
If he keeps putting in man of the match performances in it doesn’t matter
And after Can gave a diplomatic answer to a question regarding his future, Henderson attempted to lighten the mood of the interview.
"I said 100 times I’m still contracted here and my agent are doing the other things,” Can said.
Henderson then said: “If he keeps putting in man of the match performances in it doesn’t matter.”
Emre Can scored Liverpool's opening goal against Huddersfield
Can has now scored five goals in all competitions for Liverpool this season and is on course for his best ever tally since joining the Merseyside club in 2014.
“I’m happy that I could help the team. We spoke a lot before the game, they were deep and you have to shoot sometimes. I was lucky,” he added.
“Maybe in the last 10-15 minutes we need to be better. The most important thing was we won the game.
“After the two defeats we spoke a lot about a lot of things in the last few days and I think we did it brilliantly. Just the last 10 or 15 minutes (to improve).”
