Jurgen Klopp risking his Liverpool future by dropping Virgil van Dijk - Robbie Savage
LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp risked his future at the club by dropping Virgil van Dijk against Huddersfield.
Jurgen Klopp risked his Liverpool future by dropping Virgil van Dijk vs Huddersfield, says Savage
That is the opinion of BT Sport pundit and former Premier League star Robbie Savage.
Van Dijk was surprisingly dropped to the bench for the visit to David Wagner’s Huddersfield.
The defender joined Liverpool for a club-record fee of £75million earlier this month but has lost two of his first three appearances.
Those reverses were against basement-club Swansea and West Brom in the FA Cup.
If they get beat tonight, the manager comes under all sorts of pressure, leaving out your record signing
Savage says Van Dijk must play every game after being bought for such a high fee and especially after a couple of bad results for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
“The manager will watch him in training and know how he feels,” the former Wales midfielder said.
“But £75m, they needed a centre-half, he’s the one they brought in.
“He’s got to play because the amount of changes Liverpool make in that back four, the goalkeeper will need a communication with the centre-half, Van Dijk’s got to play every game for me.
Alejandro Moreno: Van Dijk doesn't solve Liverpool's issues
Virgil van Dijk was left on the bench for Liverpool's trip to Huddersfield
“He cost 75 million quid, they need him in the side.
“Tonight, after losing against Swansea, after losing against West Brom, it’s a massive game for Liverpool tonight.
“If they get beat tonight, the manager comes under all sorts of pressure, leaving out your record signing.”
