But Hammers manager David Moyes could put a block on any exit for the former Manchester United striker, with his side now hit by a major injury crisis.
Striker Andy Carroll is set to be sidelined for three months after surgery this week on a hairline fracture of the foot, fellow forward Marko Arnautovic will be out for three weeks with a hamstring strain and playmaker Manuel Lanzini could be out for as long as six weeks with the same injury.
West Ham are looking to bring in reinforcements, with Moyes’ team having recently battled their way out of the relegation zone.
Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier is high on Moyes’ list, as is Inter Milan schemer Joao Mario, though that would more likely be a loan deal, Real Betis star Fabian Ruiz and Newcastle’s Jonjo Shelvey.

"Javier has asked personally for it. He’s demanded that we look for a club that really needs a player with his characteristics.
