The Guardian claim Chelsea have turned their attentions on striking a deal with West Ham for Carroll.
But they are only prepared to take the 29-year-old on a six-month loan.
Carroll’s career in the top flight has been blighted by injuries in the past few years and only featured in 18 games last season.

Antonio Conte wants to bring in another striker to Chelsea this month
Conte wanted to sign Fernando Llorente in the summer as second choice to Alvaro Morata but was beaten to his signature by Tottenham.
But the Chelsea boss remains keen on bringing in a target man to provide a different option for his Chelsea side in the final few months of the season and Carroll is seen to fit that bill.
Hammers boss David Moyes has previously stated he doesn’t want to see any of his forwards leave, however Carroll could find it hard to turn down the potential to make a return to Champions League football.
