Liverpool news: Mo Salah pips team-mate Sadio Mane to African Player of the Year award
LIVERPOOL star Mo Salah has capped off a superb year by being named African Player of the Year.
Mohamed Salah sends Egypt to World Cup
The Egypt international, who joined Liverpool in the summer from Roma, pipped his team-mate Sadio Mane to the accolade.
He has enjoyed a fantastic debut campaign to date, notching up 24 goals in all competitions and is the Premier League’s top scorer.
Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was also in the running for the award, but he finished third.
Salah meanwhile also enjoyed a fantastic year with his country and hit both goals in Egypt’s 2-1 win over Congo to send his side to the World Cup finals in Russia.

It is not a problem, we have everything organised
Despite travelling to the awards ceremony in Accra, Salah will not miss the Merseyside derby tomorrow (7.55pm) against Everton in the third round of the FA Cup.
Jurgen Klopp confirmed the news earlier this week when he said: “It is not a problem, we have everything organised.
“We have two of the three best African players in our squad. We have to show them respect.
Sadio Mane finished second
"We are going to sleep in a hotel the night before the match, they are going to sleep on a plane. That is the only difference.
"It is just a sign of respect. I know it. I had Aubameyang at Dortmund and there is nothing more important than to go there."
