That is the opinion of BT Sport pundit and former Arsenal defender Martin Keown.
Lingard has been in fine form for Manchester United of late, scoring a brace in the 2-2 draw against Burnley on Boxing Day.
Those goals were his eighth and ninth of the season in all competitions, which is already his best return in his United career.
He struggled to break into the starting XI, especially in the Premier League, early on this season.
Manchester United star Jesse Lingard is "in protest" with Jose Mourinho, says Keown
It seems as if he’s in protest with the manager, I’m not sure the manager really fancies him
But his performances have forced Jose Mourinho to pick him in recent weeks.
However, Keown says Lingard is still “in protest” with Mourinho despite is goalscoring touch.
“He’s United’s most improved player,” he said.
“It seems as if he’s in protest with the manager, I’m not sure the manager really fancies him.

“He takes him off whenever he plays him but Lingard’s been a revelation for them.
“He’s been a really important player for them.
“He only started one of the first 13 games, he’s come in more lately.
“He deserves to be in there, I think he’s been quite outstanding recently.”
