Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho sends message to Manchester United fans
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho has thanked the Old Trafford faithful.
Mourinho praises 'determined' United after Bournemouth win
The Red Devils secured a 1-0 home win over Bournemouth last night thanks to Romelu Lukaku’s first-half header.
And that result was the perfect way for them to bounce back from Sunday’s defeat to local rivals Manchester City.
That 2-1 loss left United 11 points adrift of Pep Guardiola’s Premier League leaders and had all but ended their title challenge.
Mourinho believes the club’s supporters deserve credit for backing their team amid the disappointment of the weekend defeat to City.
"It was difficult after the derby defeat," he told MUTV.
"It was so disappointing in many ways because of the magnitude of the game and we wanted to do more.
"We wanted to win the game but, unfortunately, it wasn’t to be.
"So we wanted to come out and show a bit of fire and a bit of courage, the players getting on the ball and trying to do something.
"It wasn’t pretty at times, we had to dig deep and grind it out.

"But the most important thing was to get the three points and get back on track.
"I would like to say 'thank you' to the fans because I think it was difficult for them on Sunday in the derby defeat.
"They stuck by us again when times are hard, they were singing, they were pushing for us and we need that for the whole season."
United return to Premier League action on Sunday when they travel to West Brom (2.15pm).
