Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho was to BLAME for Paul Pogba red card - Lampard
FRANK LAMPARD has claimed Jose Mourinho played a big role in Paul Pogba getting sent off in the win over Arsenal yesterday.
Paul Pogba was sent off for this stamp on Hector Bellerin
The midfielder was shown a straight red card for a late challenge on Hector Bellerin.
Upon replay it was clear Pogba had stamped on the Spain international, but he clearly didn't agree with the decision.
His sending off failed to alter the result of the match as United ran out 3-1 winners to keep the heat on Manchester City, who play West Ham later today.
Just minutes before Pogba was dismissed from the match, he was involved in a heated discussion with Mourinho on the sidelines.
I think he got emotional I think he lost his head
And Chelsea legend Lampard is convinced the conversation left Pogba infuriated and would have certainly affected his mindset when he launched into the tackle with Bellerin.
"He was very heated and I’m of the opinion that if a manager gives you a message in a game you accept it as a player," Lampard told BT Sport.
"You can talk about it in the dressing room afterwards – you don’t need to throw arms as he does here.
Frank Lampard believes Jose Mourinho was partly at fault for Pogba's ill-discipline
"Considering he got the red card a few minutes afterwards I think he got emotional I think he lost his head.
"It wasn’t a tackle he needed to make. You’re leading 3-1, you’re protecting a lead and you understand the importance of the game and I think it’s affected his approach to the tackle."
