Chelsea news: Joey Barton writes off Premier League title hopes and Michy Batshuayi
JOEY BARTON believes Chelsea will NOT retain their Premier League title after their surprise 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.
Batshuayi scores magnificent goals during Chelsea training
The reigning champions were stunned at Selhurst Park as a Cesar Azpilicueta own-goal and a clinical finish by Wilfried Zaha gave the home side their first win of the season.
The result means Chelsea dropped to fifth in the table, already nine points behind leaders Manchester City.
Barton believes there may be problems behind the scenes at Chelsea and that their focus should now be on simply making the top four.
“Something’s not quite right at Chelsea,” Barton said on talkSPORT.
Joey Barton is not impressed by Michy Batshuayi
If you’re Chelsea, I think the title for them is over
“They’ve lost [Alvaro] Morata and they’ll hopefully get him back as soon as possible because it doesn’t look like [Michy] Batshuayi is the answer.
“If you’re Chelsea, I think the title for them is over.
“I don’t think they’re going to be at that level this season.
Antonio Conte has called on his players to stay united
“They’ve got to really focus on the Champions League, and making sure they get in the top four.”
Despite Barton’s claims, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte insists the club must pull together to respond.
“We have to find the strength to overcome this moment,” Conte said.
“I know my squad and my players very well. I have players with great will to work and to fight.”
