PSG have brought in Mbappe on a season-long loan, but they will complete a permanent £166million deal for the former Monaco star next summer.
The French champions also broke the world-record when they took Neymar from Barcelona in a £200m transfer.
Mbappe was linked to a whole host of Europe’s top clubs, including Real Madrid and Arsenal.
And Al-Khelaifi has admitted some clubs were prepared to offer more lucrative terms than PSG to sign the 18-year-old.

It was very competitive, trust me. Some other clubs offered him more than us.
“It was very competitive, trust me," Al-Khelaifi told the Daily Telegraph.
“Some other clubs offered him more than us.
“Every big club wanted him. But we explained to him our project and the ambition of the club and he’s French, he’s a Parisian and he had the club in his heart.”
Al-Khelaifi believes Mbappe felt a much stronger connection with PSG than other suitors, adding: “He wanted to stay in France and defends the French colours in the Champions League. It’s deep inside him.
“He wants to write history here and he has history here already – you saw the pictures of him (at his unveiling) when he was here 10 years ago? A picture does not lie.
“He loves the club and it’s his dream to play for Paris Saint-Germain.”
