Arsenal beat Chelsea as it happened: Managers react as Gunners win Community Shield
ARSENAL beat Chelsea on penalties in the Community Shield today. Relive all the action with Express Sport.
Arsenal v Chelsea LIVE: Gunners celebrate their win
Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-1 in the FA Cup final back in May to book their place in this clash.
And they earned victory again via a shoot-out after the match ended 1-1.
Chelsea took the lead through Victor Moses only for Sead Kolasinac to level with 10 minutes remaining.
Arsenal’s equaliser came moments after Pedro was sent off for a nasty challenge on Mohamed Elneny.
Arsenal have now won the Community Shield in three of the past four years.
They also avenged their 3-0 pre-season defeat inflicted upon them by the Blues last month.

ARSENAL WIN THE COMMUNITY SHIELD: REACTION…
Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea (4-1 pens)
Conte didn't see Pedro foul
Antonio Conte speaks to BT Sport and explains his view of Pedro’s red card.
"I didn't see the situation [with the sending off],” he said.
“For me for this reason it is very difficult for me to say something about this decision.
“This is the second game, after the FA Cup, that we finish with 10 men.
"I heard there was clearly a penalty but I did not see. We are working, we are trying to do our best.
“We had a tough pre-season, between the six days until we start the league it is important to be focused on the next game."
Wenger asks for unity
Arsene Wenger has told BT Sport he wants unity from the Arsenal fans this season after their win over Chelsea.
"Well, I don't know if it [Pedro] was a sending off or not but at that moment we were dominating,” Wenger said.
“We had some difficult moments at the start of the second half but after that we dominated. We always looked dangerous.
"Every game is a battle in the Premier League, like today.
“It is a dream to make the fans happy, a difficult dream but we try hard. I would like for them to stand behind the team as we might go through some very good periods and some not so good periods.
"We want to be united and together throughout the season."

Lampard wants deals
While we wait for reaction from the match, it’s worth considering what Frank Lampard said to his BT Sport colleagues.
"I think Chelsea need another midfield player,” Lampard said.
“They are waiting on Tiemoue Bakayoko to be fit.
"It's a lot to ask Cesc Fabregas against big teams in a difficult game to patrol as one of the two, and get on the ball to affect games. That's a lot to ask.
"Maybe that would relieve Cesc to go further forward and they need cover on the wing-back roles.
"The wing-backs, if that's what they've got, they're going to play so many games this year and they need more."
Our man Uche Amako at Wembley:
Arsenal just love Wembley at the moment.
And it's back-to-back wins for them against their bitter London rivals.
Arsenal's response to going a goal down was impressive and they got a deserved equaliser through the excellent Sead Kolasinac.
They were then ruthless from the spot giving Courtois no chance with their kicks.
After Chelsea beat Arsenal 3-0 last month, Courtois gloated about leaving a mark on the Gunners but he now looks disconsolate as he goes to get his losers medal.
What was that about?
There would be outcry if they tested that penalty shoot-out format in the FA Cup.
What I couldn’t properly explain earlier due to time constraints was how it works.
The idea is to reduce the advantage of a team going first or second - although that has never really been one of football’s biggest problems.
Team A goes first, and then Team B get two penalties. Team A then get two and the sides swap like this until Team B take their fifth penalty.
Obviously, with Courtois and Morata missing for Chelsea Arsenal only needed four spot-kicks to win it.
PENALTIES: Arsenal 4-1 Chelsea
Giroud scores! Arsenal win the Community Shield!
PENALTIES: Arsenal 3-1 Chelsea
Oxlade-Chamberlain scores. That’s three penalties apiece now. If Giroud scored Arsenal win.
PENALTIES: Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea
Morata MISSES! He fires wide off the post.
Courtois skies his penalty over the bar

FT: Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea
The penalties are working differently here. The order will be ABBA. So, Chelsea go first, then two Arsenal penalties, then two Chelsea.
Confused? So am I.
FT: Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea
We’re heading to penalties boys and girls. No 30 minutes of extra time. After all, the players must be exhausted after playing a total of 90 minutes so far this season.
Our man Uche Amako at Wembley:
An entertaining 90 minutes between two evenly matches sides.
Kolasinac made his mark for Arsenal while Pedro left his own on Mohamed Elneny's Achilles.
With no extra time, we see the introduction of the new ABBA system at Wembley.
Pens to be taken at the Arsenal end...
90+4: Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea
CHANCE! Mortal does get his chance at the death from the resulting free kick but heads wide.
Oh and the linesman has hit flag up. That spares the £70m signing’s blushes a little bit.
90+2: Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea
We’ve five minutes of added time here as Walcott scuffs wide a decent opening. That could have won it for the Gunners.
At the other end Morata wins a free-kick off Holding. Maybe one last chance for Chelsea here.
88: Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea
It’s getting niggly here. Both sides are conceding needless fouls and the game is limping to its end.
Alvaro Morata has finally touched the ball, winning a header against Xhaka. That’s pretty much been it from the ex-Real Madrid striker.
85: Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea
Remember, this match will go straight to penalties if it remains even. There is no extra time.
Nor will Pedro’s red card transfer into the new season, so he won’t be suspended for Chelsea’s Premier League opener.
No wonder this match is treated as a friendly…
81: Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea
GOAL! Sead Kolasinac scores immediately after Pedro leaves the field. Xhaka takes the free-kick and Fabregas plays the Arsenal players on side.
Kolasinac rises and heads into the net. We’re even at Wembley!
80: Arsenal 0-1 Chelsea
RED! Pedro plants six studs into Elneny’s ankle and rightly gets sent off. That was late and nasty. Pedro suffers cramp in his right hamstring as well.
Elneny could have seriously hurt himself there. That was nasty.
Theo Walcott is challenged for the ball
Chelsea's Pedro shown red card in Community Shield
76: Arsenal 0-1 Chelsea
SAVE! What a stunning block from Courtois. Dhaka lets loose from 35 yards and the ball is moving in the air.
But the Belgian goalkeeper stretches to his right and somehow gets a glove on the ball.
Rudiger comes on for Alonso. Chelsea may be setting up camp at the back here.
72: Arsenal 0-1 Chelsea
Arsenal certainly have had the better of possession since the substitutions. But Chelsea are holding firm and are yet to be threatened.
The Blues may look to grind this result out now. Both Monreal and Bellerin are high up the field, penning back Chelsea’s wing-backs.
In response Conte brings on Morata for Batshuayi. Let’s see if he gets any service.
69: Arsenal 0-1 Chelsea
Lacazette and Iwobi come off for Arsenal, with Giroud and Walcott entering the fray.
Wenger’s side need a goal and Giroud proved something of a super sub last season.
Chelsea are yet to make a change, with Luiz fit to play on after that clash with Cahill.
63: Arsenal 0-1 Chelsea
Our man Uche Amako at Wembley:
Chelsea pressed Arsenal from the get go in the second half and got a corner.
The Gunners failed to deal with it properly and were punished, with Victor Moses the quickest to react to Gary Cahill's header.
Arsenal are only just now reacting to that goal. It’s been almost all Chelsea since.
60: Arsenal 0-1 Chelsea
CLOSE! Elneny lashes a cross in from the right and it swerves towards goal. Courtois pushes it out for a corner but that was very close.
59: Arsenal 0-1 Chelsea
CRUNCH! A horrible clash of heads between Cahill and Luiz and both Chelsea men go down.
Cahill forced Mertesacker off in the first half and may have hurt his team-mate here.
The England international is up, having run full pace and leapt into Luiz’s face.
Attention immediately turns to Antonio Rudiger. Could this be his time to make an impact?
52: Arsenal 0-1 Chelsea
Chelsea are enjoying themselves out here all of a sudden. I wonder what Antonio Conte said at half time.
The Blues have full control of the midfield and Arsenal are stretched trying to find Lacazette up top.
Arsenal have eight back defending as the Blues seek a second. They can’t weave it through the block of red, though.
48: Arsenal 0-1 Chelsea
Chelsea immediately hunt for a second. Fabregas takes a short corner and he’s on the byline, clipping into the box.
The ball goes over Cech’s head but is cleared away by a red shirt. Arsenal are rattled here.
Victor Moses (left) celebrates scoring the opener
45: Arsenal 0-1 Chelsea
GOAL! Chelsea are ahead 52 seconds into the second half.
Victor Moses fires home from close range having somehow got himself free.
Arsenal don’t clear a corner correctly and when Cahill heads back into the box Moses sneaks in to score.
HT: Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea
Our man Uche Amako at Wembley:
An even first half. Lacazette hit the post, while Pedro forced Petr Cech into a fine save.
But should Chelsea have been awarded a penalty?
On first glance it looked like Willian dived. But replays showed a slight touch from Bellerin. Enough to go down? That's questionable.
Nevertheless ref Bobby Madley gave the Brazilian a yellow card.
HT: Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea
Lacazette gets away one final shot before the break but it’s easily saved by Courtois.
Arsenal will probably be the happier of the two sides, although Chelsea could bring on Hazard and Morata for this second half.
Just two shots on target between the sides shows it’s been a tame affair so far. But nevertheless entertaining.
37: Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea
PENALTY? No! Willian beats Bellerin to a loose ball in the box, ghosts past the Spaniard and then goes down. Was there a touch? It’s hard to tell. Willian looks as though he catches his own heel. But that wasn’t enough to go down, was it?
The referee blows his whistle and gives a free-kick to Arsenal. Willian is booked for the dive.
34: Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea
Our man Uche Amako at Wembley:
Arsenal's decent start was almost rewarded when a sweeping counter attack saw the ball find Lacazette in space in the box but his shot bounced off the post with Thibaut Courtois well beaten.
A goal for the French striker today could really kickstart his season.
Willian was booked for a dive - but should a penalty have been awarded?
Per Mertesacker came off injured
N'Golo Kante distributes the ball for Chelsea
27: Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea
OUCH! Cahill beats Mertesacker to the ball and his elbow comes down on the German.
Accidental but it was a real crunch. Mertesacker is bleeding pretty badly and the physio is straight on.
It’s all gone quiet at Wembley. Mertesacker is moving but it looks as though he’s been cut above the eye. A boxer’s injury.
He hobbles off. That will likely need stitches. Sead Kolasinac is coming on.
22: Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea
POST! Lacazette curls one and it clips the stump of Courtois’ left-half post.
The striker looks hungry today - that’s the closest either side have come to a goal.
The ball spills out to Bellerin but no one can get on the end of his subsequent cross.
19: Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea
We’re still awaiting the first real opener at Wembley as Chelsea work their way more and more into the game.
Petr Cech is yet to be tested by his former club, while Thibaut Courtois has had a reasonably routine start to the game.
Fabregas threads through a ball to Willian but Holding tracks the player and clears for a corner.
Chelsea take it short and mess it up completely.
14: Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea
Yellow card for Azpilicueta as he pulls down Lacazette. It was three-on-three there and the Chelsea defender hadn’t much choice.
7: Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea
Our man Uche Amako at Wembley:
A better beginning to the game from Chelsea compared to the FA Cup when they couldn't handle Arsenal's fast start.
The first half-chance went to the FA Cup winners with Danny Welbeck's header saved comfortably by Thibaut Courtois.
5: Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea
Arsenal have started the more positively at Wembley, with Alexandre Lacazette looking sprightly.
Hector Bellerin drives forward but the push comes to no avail. Alex Iwobi reaches the byline on their next attack and flashes across goal - a deflection off a defender sees it out for a corner.
1: Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea
We’re underway at Wembley! It’s not quite full here - that corporate middle ring has the odd exposed seat, naturally - but the atmosphere is decent enough.

Arsenal v Chelsea: Wenger discusses Blues
Arsene Wenger discusses today’s match.
"For us, it is just a good opportunity to repeat the performance from the FA Cup final,” he said.
"I would say that Chelsea look like they have kept the basis of 95% of their squad. They have added Tiemoue Bakayoko, who is a very strong player, a strong ball-winner, similar to Nemanja Matic, maybe less of a distance runner but more of an impact player - but certainly they will fight for the championship again.
"They have replaced Costa with Morata. Morata is maybe less of a goalscorer than Costa, but he can score and provide as well."
Arsenal v Chelsea: Conte explains Morata bench place
13:47: Antonio Conte has explained why Alvaro Morata is on the bench.
"I don't know why people are surprised by this choice,” he said.
"It's normal when a player arrives with me, he needs a bit of time to adapt to our football.
"He needs time to adapt to our idea, it's very normal.
"It's difficult for one player to arrive one day before and play the day after."

Arsenal v Chelsea: Reaction to lineups
13:41: Our man Uche Amako is reporting from Wembley and has a look over the teams to start today.
ARSENAL
With less than a week away to the start of the season, Arsene Wenger will be concerned by the depleted nature of his team.
But most fans will get the first real look at Alexandre Lacazette.
And maybe Reiss Nelson, who has impressed so much in pre-season, will get a run out off the bench.
CHELSEA
Antonio Conte names probably his strongest possible line up.
Michy Batshuayi has a big chance to stake a claim for the lead striker spot as Alvaro Morata builds up fitness.
Cesc Fabregas, up against his old club, will relish the chance to get one over them and show why he's a suitable partner for N'Golo Kante.
Arsenal v Chelsea: Community Shield history
13:22: Arsenal have won two of the past three Community Shield matches.
One of those was against Chelsea two years ago, when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gave them a 1-0 win.
This is the Gunners’ 22nd appearance in this match.
As for Chelsea, they have won just four of 11 previous games in the Community Shield.
Their last win was in 2009 when they edged Manchester United on penalties after drawing 2-2.
Chelsea beat Arsenal 2-1 in this match back in 2005 - the one and only time they have met in the season-starting clash.
Didier Drogba scored twice, with Cesc Fabregas netting a consolation for Arsenal.

The Community Shield is meant to be a friendly of sorts but both teams want to take this match seriously.
The Premier League season kicks off next weekend and Arsenal have got of to poor starts in recent years.
Arsene Wenger has expressed his desire to get off to a better start this term - and what better than beating your rivals at Wembley?
