Real Madrid striker Morata has emerged as Manchester United's top transfer target as they look to fill the void left by Zlatan Ibrahimovic's departure.
The 35-year-old took the Premier League by storm after arriving from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, scoring 19 goals and 28 across all competitions.
United have let him go, however, with the former Sweden international expected to be sidelined until 2018 with a serious knee injury.
The Red Devils have consequently targeted Morata after admitting defeat in their pursuits of Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann and Everton's Romelu Lukaku.

And the Manchester Evening News claim United made their first move before Real beat Juventus 4-1 to win the Champions League for the second season on the trot.
Express Sport understands both teams are locked in negotiations surrounding the Spain international and have failed with a £60million bid.
MEN say they first approached Real before their European final with the player initially waiting to see whether United would compete in the Champions League next term.
However, Real were solely focused on their game with Juventus and negotiations supposedly started after their win.

They came to a halt after the player married Alice Campello last week but have since resumed as both clubs haggle over a fee.
Speaking in 2015, Morata praised United manager Jose Mourinho for giving him his Real debut back in December 2010.
"Mourinho could have chosen some other player, but he chose me and I'll be grateful to him for the rest of my life," the 24-year-old said.
