But the utility man, who can play in defence and midfield, has committed his future at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are yet to announce the deal but James posted on Instagram: "Dream Come True... To Have Signed My First Professional Contract With Chelsea FC."
James has trained with Antonio Conte's first-team this season and started the EFL Trophy win against League One outfit Oxford in November.

Chelsea assistant head of youth development Jim Fraser praised James' versatility during pre-season.
He said last June: "Reece has been training with us since the age of six after training at our Cobham development centre.
"He started out as more of a striker before moving back into midfield and played most of last season at right-back or in midfield."
