MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly set to open contract talks with veteran midfielder Michael Carrick.
Michael Carrick set to hold talks with Manchester United about future
Carrick is out of contract in the summer and has featured only 19 times for Manchester United across all competitions this term.
United have lost just once with Carrick on the pitch and are undefeated in the Premier League when the England international has played.
Jose Mourinho recently suggested Michael Carrick was too old to carry on
And according to The Times, the Red Devils are planning to sit down with Carrick after their EFL Cup final with Southampton later this month to discuss his future.
Carrick has been on a one-year rolling contract at Old Trafford for the past two seasons.
Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho has been impressed by Carrick this term but recently admitted the 35-year-old is too old for an 11th season at the Theatre of Dreams.
"I have seen many positives in Carrick, but I cannot go to his identity card and delete five years," Mourinho said. "Michael is not 30."
Carrick cost United around £19million in 2006 and has gone on to win five Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Club World Cup.
