Sturridge, 27, has been missing from a number of training sessions at Melwood this week and will sit out the game against Sunderland due to a minor calf strain.
The England international has endured a frustrating season so far after falling down the forward pecking order, with Jurgen Klopp preferring Roberto Firmino to lead the line.

Sturridge has started just four Premier League games and has failed to find the net in the top flight since April.
Klopp is also without Adam Lallana, who is still recovering from a groin injury he suffered on international duty with England.

Liverpool missed the creativity of Lallana during the goalless draw with Southampton and Klopp insists he feels bad for the midfielder.
“Now I feel bad that he can’t play,” Klopp said.

“Adam Lallana as everybody knows well is an important player for us but it is not about just him.
“Even the games against Man United and Southampton they were completely different. You cannot compare them. That is no reason for us (not to score).
“We don’t know if we can bring the same formation (against Sunderland). We have got a few guys who are struggling a little bit. We have to make a few late decisions.”
