Charlie Nicholas: The decision involving this Chelsea player has baffled me
CHARLIE NICHOLAS is baffled by Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas being left out of Spain's squad.
Cesc Fabregas - 5 things you need to know
The midfielder was overlooked by national boss Julen Lopetegui for their recent 4-0 win over Macedonia, and won't feature in their friendly against England tonight (8pm).
Pedro was another Chelsea player left out of selection, while Diego Costa had to withdraw through injury.
Cesar Azpilicueta was the only star from Antonio Conte's squad to be included, but he had to settle for a spot on the bench in their 4-0 World Cup qualifier win.
But Sky Sports pundit Nicholas is confused as to why Fabregas isn't in contention for a spot.
Cesc Fabregas has been left out of Spain's recent squad
I know they'll bring back a couple of better players but there's no Diego Costa, they don't pick Cesc Fabregas, which for the life of me I don't understand, and they're missing their best centre-backs
The Spaniard had impressed in the early stages under Conte, but following his switch to a 3-4-3 formation, Fabregas has been left out of the side with Nemanja Matic and N'Golo Kante preferred.
Fabregas has also suffered injury problems of late with a thigh problem.
However, ahead of Spain's clash with England tonight, Nicholas thinks it's strange Lopetegui hasn't included the 29-year-old.

Julen Lopetegui's Spain take on England tonight
"I watched Spain midweek as I was out there for a few days and they weren't really impressive, despite running out 4-0 winners against Macedonia," Nicholas told Sky Sports.
"I know they'll bring back a couple of better players but there's no Diego Costa, they don't pick Cesc Fabregas, which for the life of me I don't understand, and they're missing their best centre-backs.
"If I was England I'd expect to beat them. With the players available, England have a better starting line-up."
