John Stones could have been the missing piece in the Arsenal jigsaw, claims Martin Keown
JOHN STONES is just the player Arsene Wenger would loved to have signed.
John Stones - 5 things you need to know
That is according to Martin Keown.
Stones ended up joining Manchester City for £50m, while Wenger splashed out £35m for Shkodran Mustafi.
Keown knows a thing or two about solid back fours, having previously played for the Gunners.
He reckons Stones wouldn’t have worsened the Arsenal defence had he snubbed City.
“Arsene [Wenger] would have wanted him if he could have afforded him,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“He is of the opinion that central defenders need to be technical players.

“He’s not so bothered about having giants in central defence – he’d rather have mobile, technical defenders – and is always on the lookout for a young, English centre back.
“Would Stones have improved Arsenal’s back four? He wouldn’t have made it any worse and will no doubt have come out with the ball as he has done for City.”
