Liverpool refused to pay £10m asking price for left-back as Klopp looked at bigger picture
LIVERPOOL’S Jurgen Klopp opted against signing Leicester’s Ben Chilwell - because he reportedly doesn’t want to start paying over the odds for players.
Klopp: 'If I saw someone else doing what I do I would think 'Is he crazy?'
The Reds were linked with a number of left-backs during the summer transfer window.
Alberto Moreno’s form for Liverpool has seen the Spaniard drop out of the first XI, following his poor performances in the Europa League final and opening Premier League game at Arsenal.
And James Milner has filled in as a make-shift left-back since.
But according to Joe.co.uk, Liverpool could have landed highly-rated 19-year-old Chilwell, but Klopp didn’t want to pay up.
The £10m asking price for a player who had never featured in England’s top flight put off the Reds boss.
And going forward, it is claimed Klopp didn’t want to give the impression he would pay excessively for key targets at Anfield.
Ben Chilwell is yet to feature in the Premier League yet for Leicester
He apparently feels as soon as a move is made to pay a relative big sum, there is no turning back in the transfer market.
Liverpool paid over £50m to sign Georginio Wijnaldum and Sadio Mane this summer, but a left-back was not brought in.
