Arsene Wenger is in desperate need of a new centre-back following Per Mertesacker's injury.
The German has been ruled out for an estimated five months with a knee problem.
And according to Spanish publication Sport, Vermaelen is said to be on Wenger's shortlist.

The report claims the Belgian is willing to listen to any offers from his former team.
The 30-year-old spent five years in north London and was part of the club's FA Cup triumph in 2014.
But that year he was sold to the Spanish giants where he has since struggled to force his way into Luis Enrique's side, making just 11 league appearances since his switch.

Arsenal have already signed defender Rob Holding from Bolton, but after Mertesacker's injury, Wenger is keen to find cover.
