Man City abandon pre-season tour match with Jeonbuk Motors amid referee bribery scandal
MANCHESTER CITY have abandoned plans to play a pre-season tour match against the South Korean champions after their opponents were embroiled in a referee bribery scandal.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola
City had pencilled in a trip to play Jeonbuk Motors on July 30 after two games in China against Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund and one in Germany against new boss Pep Guardiola’s former club Bayern Munich.
But one of the Jeonbuk scouts has been accused of making payments to referees in a bid to influence games in the latest bribery scandal to hit South Korean football and City's first trip to the country has been scrapped.
A ‘K’ League official said: "Professional football is quite a big mess due to referee scandals and other things so I officially told Jeonbuk to refrain from organising anything too festive."
