The Blues are said to want £20million for Colombia international Cuadrado, who endured a nightmare six-month stint at Stamford Bridge last season.
He was fielded out on loan to Juve and helped the Turin club secure the Serie A title this campaign.
But officials in Turin are refusing to meet Chelsea's demands for the 27-year-old and have instead turned their attention to Alves.
Javier Mascherano is also on manager Max Allegri's wish-list as the Italian giants seek to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.
As for Chelsea, incoming manager Antonio Conte wants to watch Cuadrado in pre-season before deciding what to do with the former Fiorentina star.
Conte, 46, is thought to be eyeing a number of transfer targets but may also be required to sell this summer to balance the books.
