Manchester United on alert over double swoop: Euro giants must sell top stars
INTER MILAN need to find £39million from player sales to meet their Financial Fair Play obligations - and Manchester United could benefit from their situation.
Zanetti (centre) admits Inter could sell their stars but wants to keep Handanovic (left) and Icardi
That is according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim Inter are facing a rocky summer of transfer activity.
Manager Roberto Mancini is keen to bring in new players this summer to restructure his team ahead of a top-three push in Serie A.
But owner Erick Thohir appears unwilling to pump any money into the club and there are claims he wants to sell to a group of Chinese investors.
Indeed, Zanetti also wants to retain goalkeeper Samir Handanovic, who has been touted as a possible replacement for David De Gea at Old Trafford in the event the Spaniard moves to Real Madrid.
“We haven’t forgotten the fiscal rules we need to respect, which penalise us a bit,” Zanetti said.
“We will examine Handanovic’s situation and we must speak with Mancini to plan for next season.
“However, Icardi wants to stay at all costs.”
Other players Inter are reportedly considering selling are midfielder Marcelo Brozovic and defender Jeison Murillo, who are valued at £15.6m (€20m).
Mauro Icardi - 5 things you need to know
Inter were hit with spending sanctions for failing to adhere to Financial Fair Play rules.
Last year UEFA punished the San Siro club along with Roma and Monaco for exceeding their spending limits.
Inter's finances are being monitored and they must break even before the end of the 2018/19 season.
They have agreed to file a maximum deficit of €30m (£23.4m) by the end of this year.
