Watford ace Troy Deeney: What Arsenal's Gabriel said to me after his horror tackle
WATFORD captain Troy Deeney has revealed Arsenal defender Gabriel apologised to him after his first-half horror tackle.
Gabriel's tackle with Troy Deeney
Midway through the first half, the pair came together and the Brazilian appeared to jump two-footed into Deeney.
Referee Andre Marriner signalled that Gabriel had got the ball but Deeney and his Watford team-mates were very unhappy with the challenge and felt he should have seen red.
Deeney was able to continue and provided two assists as the Hornets won 2-1 to reach the semi-finals.
The striker expressed his unhappiness with the tackle but played down any suggestion of intent from Gabriel.
“I was unhappy with the tackle,” Deeney told BT Sport.
“Obviously I could have gone through him as well but I tried my best to keep my studs down.
“He came over the top; I don’t think he was intentionally trying to do me. Fair play to him, he apologised.
“I was a bit frustrated in the initial moments after because they’re the tackles that can break legs. Thankfully I’m a big guy and I rode the tackle. We’re men at the end of the day, we’ll shake hands and there’s no hard feelings.”
