Jurgen Klopp: This is why Liverpool have moved for £24m Chelsea target Alex Teixeira
JURGEN KLOPP has admitted Liverpool’s injury problems have brought forward their summer transfer plans as talks continue over a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Alex Teixeira.
Jurgen Klopp was tight-lipped on the potential transfer of Alex Teixeira
The Liverpool manager was tight-lipped on the pursuit of the Brazilian forward, but said circumstances had forced him to reassess his outlook for the January transfer window.
Anfield chief executive Ian Ayre held face to face talks with Shakhtar officials in Florida on Wednesday and tabled a £24m offer for Teixeira. The Ukraine club are seeking around £38m.
"I have nothing to say about this,” said Klopp. “We could talk about a lot of players in the world and I could, if we had time for this, talk about the qualities they have.”
Yet Klopp admitted Daniel Sturridge’s ongoing absence, the injuries to Danny Ings and Divock Origi, plus Christian Benteke’s teething troubles mean Liverpool have brought forward their plans to pursue Teixeira in the summer.
