Jurgen Klopp discusses dealing with Ilkay Gundogan amid Daniel Sturridge frustration
JURGEN KLOPP believes the experience of dealing with injury-prone Ilkay Gundogan while at Borussia Dortmund will help him manage Daniel Sturridge's return to fitness.
Klopp (left) says he will manage Sturridge (right) through his injuries, just like Gundogan
Sturridge has been in and out of action for more a year with injuries to his thigh, hip, knee and - most recently - his hamstring.
Likewise Gundogan, 25, missed almost the entire 2013/14 season through injury but returned to star in the Dortmund side.
"We all know it's pretty easy for him when he's fit, but at this moment he isn't.
"We cannot change this and I am not thinking about making a general decision [about him] at the moment.
"We have to patient. That's not my best skill, but in this case I have no other choice."
Klopp: We must build Sturridge's resistance to injury
Liverpool travel to Norwich tomorrow (12.45pm) seeking a first Premier League win of 2016.
Striker Christian Benteke, who was dropped during their 1-0 loss to Manchester United last weekend and who squandered a handful of chances to score against Exeter in the FA Cup on Wednesday, could start up front in Sturridge's prolonged absence.
